The Trump administration's third "Big Beautiful" offshore oil and gas lease sale generated $82.7 million in high bids Wednesday, marking a rebound from a weak March auction but remaining well below the $191 million raised in the first sale in August 2018.
The sale, which covered nearly 80 million acres in the Gulf of Mexico, attracted 18 companies, including major players ExxonMobil and Chevron. The strong interest in the sale reflects the growing demand for oil and gas in the United States, as well as the administration's efforts to boost domestic energy production.
