Job Description

Maritime Vessel Operator/Operator Dredge

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating, navigating, steering, directing, or sailing a variety of vessels, including but not limited to, tugboats, barges, and dredges, powered or not, including dredging equipment, when duties include operating, navigating, steering, directing, or sailing the vessel, or operating the spuds on a dredge.




  • Operate, navigate, steer, direct, or sail a variety of vessels, including but not limited to, tugboats, barges, and dredges, powered or not, including dredging equipment.

  • Ensure the safe operation of the vessel and its equipment, adhering to all relevant safety protocols and regulations.

  • Monitor and maintain vessel performance, including speed, course, and fuel consumption.

  • Communicate effectively with crew members, shore-based personnel, and other vessels to ensure safe and efficient operations.

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on vessel equipment and systems, as required.

  • Participate in regular drills and training exercises to maintain proficiency in emergency procedures.

  • Meet all relevant certification and training requirements, including but not limited to:


    • Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with a valid endorsement for the vessel type and capacity.

    • STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) certification.

    • USCG (United States Coast Guard) certification for the vessel type and capacity.




This position meets the criteria for random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Army.
