V. & E. Solomon

V. & E. Solomon is a reputable Australian shipping company with a rich history that dates back to 1837. The firm, founded by brothers Vaiben and Emanuel Solomon, operated as auctioneers in Sydney as well as shipping agents, connecting the city to Adelaide until 1844. During this period, they represented the Brig Dorset, Captain David Walsh's vessel, showcasing superior cabin accommodations fitting for a luxurious yacht. Additionally, V. & E. Solomon acquired the barque Strathisla in 1839, transporting its first cargo consisting of 99 ponies from Timor, yielding a substantial profit. This endeavor also enabled the importation of ponies that established the distinctive Coffin Bay breed in South Australia. According to records, V. & E. Solomon no longer operated the Strathisla after 1844. The company employed Judah Moss Solomon as supercargo, later partnered with his brother Isaac Solomon, and eventually dissolved their partnership in April 1844.
