Union-Castle Line

Union-Castle Line↗, a British carrier founded in 1853 and headquartered in London, operated a fleet of passenger liners and cargo vessels linking European ports with African destinations from 1900 until its maritime services ceased in 1977. Originating from the 1900 merger of the Union Line and Castle Shipping Line, the company expanded its scope through the 1956 consolidation with Bullard King and Clan Line under British & Commonwealth Shipping↗, and the 1973 integration with Safmarine to form International Liner Services, while preserving its identity. The line’s significant legacy includes vessel classes that serviced trade routes across the Atlantic Ocean corridors.
