Toyo Kisen Kaisha, Japanese shipping company founded in 1896 and headquartered in Tokyo City, has a rich history of operating maritime services that have played significant roles in shaping global trade and migration patterns. Initially conceived as a shipping line to San Francisco, the company expanded its fleet to cater to passenger traffic between Japan and South America, with the Japanese government providing subsidies through the National Far Western Shipping Route Subsidizing Act of [1]. Between 1905 and 1926, TKK operated passenger ships on these routes, facilitating the transportation of East Asian immigrants to South America.
