Portuscale Cruises

Portuscale Cruises, founded 2013 in Lisbon, emerged as Portugal's first dedicated maritime cruise company. Investing 20 million euros, it acquired an initial fleet of four cruise ships, including the Funchal, Azores, and Lisboa, from defunct Classic International Cruises. By 2014, the Funchal was active and the Azores chartered to CMV. The Lisboa underwent refit before being sold for scrap. Portuscale strategically transitioned to a charter-only model by late 2016, no longer operating under its own brand. The Funchal was laid up, while the Azores (renamed Astoria) continued under various charters with operators like CMV and Rivages du Monde before its eventual sale, reflecting its operational evolution within the maritime cruise sector.
