Manchester Liners

Manchester Liners established a foundational presence in transatlantic trade, originating in 1897 from the United Kingdom's Manchester Ship Canal. The company pioneered ocean-going services across major routes including Mediterranean operations. Operationally, its history is defined by structural limitations, most notably a maximum vessel length restriction of 530 feet (160 m) imposed by the canal's lock chambers. This technical constraint dictated specialized cargo handling and facilitated a container shipping transition in 1968.
