Lloyd Sabaudo

Lloyd Sabaudo, founded in Turin in 1906, quickly established itself as a cornerstone of Italian maritime transport. By 1907 the line launched a passenger service that linked Italy to ports across North and South America while penetrating Asian markets, thereby forging a tri‑continental network that facilitated both crew and cargo movements. The company’s expansive itinerary and robust scheduling contributed to Italy’s growing presence on international shipping routes throughout the early twentieth century. In 1932, Lloyd Sabaudo merged with several contemporaneous Italian lines, creating the Italian Line—a unified fleet that inherited its predecessor’s strategic routes, technical proficiency, and marketing reach.
