🏢 Corporate Intelligence

Leyland Line, a United Kingdom shipping carrier headquartered in Liverpool, was established in 1873 by Frederick Richards Leyland and became a key component of British cargo transport, operating a fleet of iron‑clad steamers serving Atlantic and European routes. After Leyland’s death the line was acquired by Sir John Ellerman in 1892, and in 1902 it entered the International Mercantile Marine Company portfolio, linking it to the world’s largest shipping conglomerate and expanding access to liner services. A portion of its vessels was reassigned to Ellerman Lines network. The company’s operations contracted during Great Depression, leading to its liquidation in 1935.
