A. C. de Freitas & Co.

A. C. de Freitas & Co., a 19th-century maritime enterprise founded by Augusto Constantino de Freitas in 1835, initially operated a fleet of sailing ships before transitioning to steamships in 1879. The company's shipping arm expanded to establish regular scheduled services to the Adriatic Sea, southern Brazil, and Argentina. At its peak, the fleet comprised 14 steamships employed in the South American trade, which were acquired by the Hamburg America Line↗ in 1900. The company's Mediterranean operations ceased in 1911 with the sale of six steamships to Deutsche Levante Linie↗.
